What is RSS?

Really Simple Syndication is a means for sharing and distributing Web content. Using an RSS reader, you can view headlines from various sources, such as, and if interested, click on a full story link to read the entire article. All that is required is an RSS reader.

Why Use a News Reader?

Save time. A news reader (a.k.a. aggregator, feed reader, or RSS reader) will alert you to the latest developments on or any other site in which you have subscribed. You do not have to browse to each of your favorite websites in search of news - just scan the news reader for items that interest you. A headline is displayed with a link to the rest of the story.

Available News Readers

There are several types of news readers available:

Bloglines is an example of a dedicated web-based reader. It is nice because you can read news from any pc on the Internet.

Outlook has several available plug-ins to read RSS news. Thunderbird email program already has news reader capability built-in.

FeedDemon or RSSReader are examples of standalone readers.

MSN, Yahoo, and Gmail have built-in capability to show RSS feeds along with most browsers.
